Portland Trust was established in 1997 by its managing partners Robert Neale and Mark Vydra to develop high quality, institutional, commercial real estate assets throughout Central Europe. Both individuals have considerable experience throughout the region and have been active in the property and retail sectors since the early 1990’s.
In 1999, a significant stake in Portland Trust and its subsidiary companies was purchased by Apollo Real Estate Advisors in order to expand the business and undertake larger projects. Globally, Apollo has overseen nine real estate funds, comprising over $11 billion of equity and has invested in over 250 transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $25 billion. In Europe, Apollo has been active since 1993 and has invested over $1.5 billion of equity.
Portland Trust has completed a wide range of projects including supermarkets, a regional shopping center, office buildings, light industrial / logistic parks and even a school in the Czech Republic and Bucharest, Romania. As at summer 2008, Portland has completed over 325,000 m2 net leasable space of new buildings with approximately 70,000 m2 of space coming on line over the next year. Land banks which have been purchased for future development, which are in the planning phases, amount to 250 hectares.

Portland Trust is also dedicated to a clear and simple environmental policy of using local, natural materials where possible, designing buildings in a fundamentally efficient manner, use of modern, efficient plant and technology and adhering to both local and international guidelines for energy efficiency. The aim is to procure designs of buildings that integrate into the local surroundings and also to minimize the enviromental impact.
